A WWII Soldier’s View of the India-Burma-China Theatre

Yesterday being the anniversary of D-Day, the day when the allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy during WWII, it prompted me to dig out some old photos that my Mother had from when her Brother, my Uncle, was in the war. He was stationed in the Burma-India-China theatre.  He drove supply trucks on the “Burma Road” and the “Stilwell Road (Ledo Road)” up into China, and apparently, he also took a lot of photos.  Perhaps this is where I inherited my love of photography from?!?

My Addiction…

An idea, a spark…
Something that will make people really look…
My mind visualizes the outcome, long before we begin…
The planning, the searching, then the right person walks in…

A Look Back In Time (Part Two)

Continuing along with my last post “A Look Back In Time” (Click here to read it) – I’ve been going through old negatives that belonged to my Great Aunt. I’m not sure when these photos were taken, I would purely guess that it’s sometime around the mid 20’s judging from the autos, motorcycle, and farm machinery, but who knows. The people are long gone, so there’s no one to ask…. Anyway, below are a few more negatives that I have scanned in…

A Look Back In Time…

For the past few days, my Mom has been going through some of her late Aunt’s belongings who had passed away many years ago.  She found old diaries, notebooks, photo albums, etc… She came across some old negatives that she didn’t think were of any value, so she tossed them in a grocery sack to be discarded.  For some reason I thought maybe I should take a look, and discovered 4 envelopes of negatives.

Truth…

For the most part, I think people are actually pretty good at recognizing the truth when they see it. Whether it’s words that are spoken, or words that are not. Subtle hints that are dropped, or actions and reactions… I think most of us can see through the smoke and can recognize the truth as things happen to us…. Unfortunately however, I also think that for the most part, people have a horrendous time accepting the truth – especially if it’s something they don’t want to believe.

What if??

I’m going to pose some “what if” questions to my readers, and I ask that you think about them for a while.  These questions are based around the topic of:  What would happen if we no longer based our lives on economic wealth? [Read more…]

Modo 302

Modo 302!! I just finished downloading Luxology’s newest version of Modo – version 302 – and I’m excited to crack it open and get to it!! The funny thing is, I haven’t had much of a chance to even study version 301 yet!!! This time however I took the time to download their accompanying “video training” material too (well over 1 Gb worth!!) I’d really like to come to grips with Modo because the results I’ve seen others accomplish with it are quite impressive!

There seems to be a lot going on lately – I upgraded Zbrush to version 3.1 a few weeks ago, and I actually started on a new tutorial on how to use ZBrush, Poser, and Tool Collection for Poser (a nominally priced 3rd party set of applications) to create injection morphs for Poser figures!

Then, two weekends ago while trying to do my weekly hard drive backup. Acronis (the backup software that I use) would get about 60% done, and then totally lock up my computer!! I was all of last week sorting that mess out. I believe it was a combination of a couple corrupted files and a bit of disk fragmentation that caused it – but I’m not certain. All I know is that I deleted the corrupted files (two jpegs), defragmented the hard drive, uninstalled Acronis – rebooted – then reinstalled it again, and it began working again, but there was a lot of trial and error during this process!

Anyway, hopefully I can finish my tutorial soon, and then get busy with Modo!! :o)

The Last Human…

I was just sitting here, thinking, about people and life in general. And the thought crossed my mind that someday there will come a day, when the last person will take his or her final breath. That day in the future is an absolute certainty – the only question is: When will it be, and under what circumstances will it happen.

Words of Advice…

I’ve often heard it and seen it written before,

If you love someone, you should let them know

and for the longest time I believed this myself, but I’ve discovered that this is only the first half of an incomplete sentence.  The rest of which reads,

if you want to change things forever between you…

And the change part is more often than not, not what you were hoping for…

So my words of advice for someone considering such a fool notion, before opening your mouth, sleep on it – for like 5 or 6 years – the dream is almost always better than the reality.

Everything you see has a story

I found this sandal on the beach a week or two back, and for some strange reason I took a picture of it…  Today as I was going through pics, I stopped at this one again and just studied it… I let my mind go, and suddenly it was full of questions…
