What is Love?

I’ve asked myself this question before – trying to define it, establish rules and guidelines for its existence… Once, I thought love was actually the sum of all of the other emotions – the good as well as the bad – all crunched up into one gloppy, goopy sometimes blissful, oftentimes painful mess…  Other times I wasn’t sure that it really existed at all, that it was nothing but the byproduct of our thoughts longing for companionship…  Perhaps there is no one answer… The answer, if there actually is one, might be different for each of us… Who knows?

To me though, I think love is many things…

Of course love is trust, and patience, and forgiveness and all those things like that…
But love is also understanding that love itself is not always a cure – love can make you feel more lonely…
Love is being happy for the other person when they are happy…
Love is sometimes keeping a hurt to yourself – to spare the other person from hurting too…
Basically I think love can really be summed up in just one sentence;  Love is never about you, it’s about you doing whatever it takes, no matter what, to make the other person feel happy, even if it means leaving…
